Gold Coast Waveriders are an Australian men’s Twenty20 franchise cricket team that competes in an independent and privatised Twenty20 cricket competition, the Brisbane Premier League (BPL). Based on the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland, the Waveriders wear a light blue and yellow uniform. The team plays in the Senior competition, while the Waveriders also feature multiple junior age groups including U12s, U13s, U15s, U17s for males and U23s for females.
The Waveriders were formed in 2021 to play in the inaugural Brisbane Premier League competition. The inaugural captain was Toombul batsman Harry McNeilly. Notable players include former New South Wales player Param Uppal, 2023-24 Hobart Hurricanes player Nikhil Chaudhary, Brisbane Heat squad member Hugo Burdon, and 2022 Australian Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad members Tobias Snell and Tom Whitney.
The Waveriders are the most successful team in the competition’s history having won the inaugural 2021 Brisbane Premier League season, before going back-to-back in 2022 when the team defeated the Coastal Marlins by 19 runs. In 2023, the Waveriders secured their third title in a row after comfortably beating the Great Barrier Reef Rays in the Grand Final by 109 runs.
