Northern Kings are an Australian men’s Twenty20 franchise cricket team that competes in an independent and privatised Twenty20 cricket competition, the Brisbane Premier League (BPL). Based in Kedron in the state of Queensland, the Kings wear a gold and black uniform. The team plays in the Senior competition, while the Kings also feature multiple junior age groups including U12s, U13s, U15s, U17s for males and U23s for females.
The Kings were formed in 2021 to play in the inaugural Brisbane Premier League competition. Former Queensland Bulls players Ian Healy and Chris Lynn both hold an ownership stake in the team. The inaugural captain was Valleys allrounder Andrew Gode, who played for the Queensland Bulls in a one-day match against New South Wales in October 2018. Other notable players include Brisbane Heat replacement player Josh Brown, former Tasmanian and Western Australian batsman John Rogers, and Test great Ian Healy’s son, Tom Healy.
The Kings won four out of six games during a successful inaugural season that saw them reach the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Brisbane Premier League. However, they were beaten in that match by the Darling Dingoes by 8 wickets. A disappointing season followed in 2022 with the team finishing third in Pool B with just one win. The Kings turned things around in 2023 and won all four of their group stage matches to qualify for a semi-finals berth. However, they were beaten in that match by the Great Barrier Reef Rays by 10 wickets.
